Week 1 Gas $4.12/gal
The spike in gas prices fortunately has not had much effect here. Around here most people believe the government or corporations can fix the current situation of high gas prices. I live in a very stable area. Being in the heart of the Bible belt and with plenty of jobs to go around, the large price increase of gas has only effected majority of people a little. The increase added only $135 a month to my current gas bill ($210 to about $345 driving Ford Taurus about 20,000 miles a year). Unfortunately I do believe if the gas price increase starts to effect prices of other items like food, shipped items from china, new housing, etc., this area might not fare so well.
Current Threats
-Gas Siphoned from cars.
-$135 a month extra spent on gas.
My current solutions
-Park cars in Garage or do not leave a full tank of gas in car over night. Store extra gas in container inside a secure place until needed.
-Drive less by do multiple trips at one time and determine the most efficient route before leaving. For example grocery shopping, taking out trash, and visiting a friend might be done in one efficient trip if planned right.
-Carpool not only to work with coworkers, but may be to grocery store and trash dump with neighbors.
Future Threats
-Food, shipped items from china, and new housing prices increases to name a few.
-Utilities such as power, natural gas, and water may increase also.
-Gas shortages from people stock piling it.
-Riots and theft from newly poverty stricken middle class people.
More of My current Solutions
-Start growing a garden to help supplement your food cost.
-Buy local items or only items I need.
-Fix my house up instead of buying new one.
-Look at making my house more efficient and upgrading my solar power.
-Start riding my bike for practice at the park. Traffic is still to strong to ride on the local roads.
-Store up two weeks supply of water and food in case riots or theft disrupts current supplies.
There are some people living here in poverty, but for the most part we are middle class people. If the jobs start to go, so will a good bit of are middle class who have over priced houses, cars, and large credit card debts. I will continue to prepare for the worst and pray for the best… God bless America.
